**SUCCESSFUL CASE***

Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Cpl. Adam Reynolds.

On 9/8/2021 K9 Unit Cpl. A. Reynolds and Ruger were deployed in a tactical on-lead search for subjects wanted for a home invasion. A witness observed a car pull into the driveway of his neighbor’s house, two subjects exited the vehicle and tried to forcefully enter into a occupied home. Being confronted, the subject in the vehicle sped away, the two remaining subjects fled on foot through the yard and into a wooded area. A perimeter was quickly established and the two subjects were seen exiting the woods. Once challenged the subjects again fled into the wooded area, K9 assistance was requested. With no scent article available, Cpl. Reynolds cast K9 Ruger in an undisturbed area the subjects were last seen. Ruger identified a scent presence and quickly committed to a trail. Several areas of disturbance including foot prints were located throughout the trail. As Ruger continued the trail the subjects were once again spotted, one was taken into custody and the other continued to elude. K9 continued with the trail and based off the direction of travel Cpl. Reynolds provided and the disturbance crossed, led to the apprehension of the second subject. Both subjects were taken to jail. The driver still remains at large.
