Campbell County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Deputy Cameron Byrd

June 5, 2023. Deputy Cameron Byrd and K9 Dyson from Campbell County Sheriffs office was deployed in search of a subject with many felony warrants who had fled on foot from a residence while trying to serve warrants. No scent article was available but a witness observed the man run behind a house and into a tall grass field. The witness showed an area where he last saw the man. Deputy Byrd cast for scent, when Dyson showed a head turn, Byrd recognized the body language and put him on the trail. Dyson led through the field and along the edge of woods before encountering the subject where he was quickly placed into custody.
Mike Szelc: One of my favorite components is casting (cutting) a trail. By moving north/ south on an east/west trail with your K9 in harness but on flat collar, watch for sudden head turns and high interest in an area. When the K9 shows the distinctive alert, HOOK-UM. Good job Byrd
