**SUCCESSFUL CASE***

INBTI Vice President and Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Sgt. Michael Szelc

INBTI and Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Cpl. Adam Reynolds

On April 27, 2020 the family of a 20 year old male reported him missing. They went to his work where he had clocked out at 8:30 pm. On April 29 his vehicle was located on a dead end road. Not knowing if there was foul play involved we obtained a scent article from the subjects residence. Placing the article behind the vehicle Handler Adam Reynolds and Ruger confirmed the subjects scent presence and committed to a trail leading into a wooded area. Ruger lead into a grass field before entering back into the woods and displayed several different alerts to the scent presence... We decided to run Zwei. Handler Michael Szelc and Zwei were able to confirm Rugers track and continue leading to a lake. Zwei jumped into the lake on 2 occasions. It was night, raining and foggy. We relayed our findings and our thoughts to the shift Sergeant. Due to the low visibility it was decided to resume in the morning. The following morning a visual search was conducted in the area Ruger and Zwei had led, the subject was located laying on a rock in the lake deceased just yards from where Ruger and Zwei had taken us.
