On July 9th 2018, Mark-9 Search and Rescue assisted an agency in the search for an 80 y/o dementia patient missing for approximately 20 hours. The K9 team was able to give the calling agency critical information regarding the missing subject.
The K9 team quickly picked up a trail off of a scent article they had obtained. The K9 worked both sides of the road in a busy urban environment. The K9 Checked side streets and gave negatives, going back to the main road. After a mile and a half, the K9 came to a bus stop enclosure and her intensity escalated. She smelled a seat at the bus stop and pawed at it. The K9 was told to get to work, but stayed in the bus stop enclosure. She was taken to the other side of the bus stop and was told to check! The K9 went out 10’ and gave a negative. The authorities were informed this was the end of the trail.
Authorities then stated someone had seen the missing man sitting at this bus stop for a long time.
