DNassau County Police Department K-9 Jake and his partner, Police Officer Jeffrey Shaikh, assisted in the apprehension of a Uniondale man for a stolen vehicle on Sunday.Third Precinct officers were on burglary patrols when they noticed a black 2006 Hyundai emerge from the parking lot of the closed Toys “R” Us on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place. The vehicle, operated by two men, exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed, and following a chase in which officers activated their lights and sirens, both occupants exited the vehicle in Garden City and fled on foot.K-9 Jake tracked one defendant from the scene to the Nassau County Supreme Court building in Mineola, where he was hiding under dense foliage. That defendant is charged with four counts of Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree.The other defendant was apprehended by officers at a home in Garden City, and is charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree, one count of Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree, and one count of Resisting Arrest.As a member of the NCPD, K-9 Jake plays an important role in tracking criminal suspects and keeping our communities safe.
